Seaton and District Electric Tramway
One way to enjoy the bountiful bird life of the River Axe estuary is to take a ride on the Seaton and District Electric Tramway, which runs on the old railway embankment, to service the Saxon town of Colyton three miles inland.
The embankment runs between two different wetland habitats. On one side are the salt marsh and mudflats of the River Axe, while on the other are freshwater marshes and grazing land.
The tramway’s open topped double-deckers offer the best views across the river, and events are held throughout the year to cater especially for bird watchers who can expect to see between 30 and 50 different species.
